| Answer to 1 What are the stocked slatwall products? Melamine Slatwall- 3" o.c. (o.c. = on center distance between the grooves) 4 x 8 grooves in the 8 direction - white, gray, light gray, gray nebula, almond, birch, oak, and brushed aluminum. High Pressure Laminated Slatwall 3" o.c. (on center) 4 x 8 grooves in the 8 direction - white, gray, almond, and black. Other finishes- 3" o.c. (on center) 4 x 8 grooves in the
8 direction - paintable, oak veneer, birch The above products come available with plain grooves, full vinyl inserts, and plastic accent strips for the grooves. The full vinyl inserts are available in: white, black, red, almond and gray. The plastic accent strip comes in 625 rolls and 125' rolls (one 625' roll covers 5 panels of 4 x 8 3" o.c. / one 125' roll covers 1 panel - 4' x 8'). The plastic accent strips are available in: white, black, red, almond and gray. What is the difference between High Pressure and Melamine laminates? High Pressure laminates - Wilsonart, Formica, Nevamar and Pionite - come with a gray phenolic backer in a wide variety of colors, patterns and woodgrains. They are approximately 1/32" in thickness, and get glued to the substrate (for slatwall, typically MDF medium density fiberboard). The melamine (low pressure) laminates come in a variety of product lines (foils, heat-transfers, vinyls, thermofused). Wind Mill uses a post-impregnated melamine paper thats adhered under heat and pressure directly onto the MDF panels. The basic difference is the high pressure laminate has the melamine surface glued to a phenolic backer first, then to the board; whereas, the melamine laminate eliminates the backer and gets glued directly onto the surface of the board. What are the different high pressure laminate (HPL) thicknesses and
how do they The typical HPL panel uses a "vertical thickness" (.032") laminate, which is often only available in 4 x 8 sizes. For quicker lead times on larger sizes (5 x 8, 4 x 10, etc.), postforming laminates (.040") and standard grade (.050") are recommended. The average difference in price between vertical grade and postforming, or standard grade is $10 for 4 x 8 and $15 for 4 x 10, or 5 x 8. Lead times can often be improved by days and sometimes weeks for the larger / thicker laminates. What is the difference between stock cut and vertical cut slatwall? Stock cut is the standard cut (grooves in the long, or typically 8 direction). Vertical cut panels run the grooves in the 4, or short direction. This requires a small upcharge, because the panels need to be machined differently. This can also extend the lead time slightly. What are the standard cuts? What are the typical options to the standard cuts? The standard cut is the 3" o.c. (on center - distance between the grooves) 4 x 8 grooves in the 8, or long direction. Typical optional cuts include: 2" o.c., 4" o.c., 6"o.c., 8"o.c., 9"o.c., and 12"o.c. The other typical panel sizes are 5 x 8 and 4 x 10. The option on the direction of the grooves is to go vertical cut (grooves in the short direction on the board). Also available are Cubewall (grooves in both directions), DASHwall (intermittent dashes as opposed to full slatwall cuts), PROFILEwall (slatwall grooves alternated with profiled machine cuts), and other custom routed grooving patterns. What is Cubewall, DASHwall, PROFILEwall and BRICKwall?
How do metal inserts enhance the panels? Are there any alternatives to the metal inserts for increasing the strength of the panels? Yes. The extra support downslant arm is available for extra support of the plated shelf bracket. It works with the 10" and 12" shelf bracket and gets attached via set screw to the underside of the bracket with the opposite end fitting into a groove below the bracket - for added support. How much does a panel weigh? Paintable 4 x 8 panels cut in the standard 3" o.c. weigh approximately 80 pounds each. The 5 x 8 and the 4 x 10 panels weigh approximately 100 pounds each. Crating, shipping, pick-up information? There is a $30 crating and handling charge for panel orders under a quantity of 20. The crating charge does not apply to panel quantity orders of 20 and over. For crating purposes, the panels are placed on a skid with the corners and edges protected for shipment via common carrier. Slatwall panels typically ship Class 55. Note: The truckers typically do not help unload shipments. Wind Mill is happy to call to inform customers when shipments leave our docks. There is an extra charge for the truckers to make phone calls before delivering shipments. What are the quantity breaks? The quantity breaks are as follows: 1-9, 10-24, 25-74, 75-149, 150-299, 300+. Call for price discounts that correspond to the above quantity breaks. How are the panels installed? Install over existing plaster or drywall onto studs - wood, or metal. The dry wall backing does provide some added strength to the panels installing directly onto studs should be for applications that do not require maximum load carrying capacities). Panel adhesive is recommended for more permanent installations. Drywall screws of the proper length work the best. Drive the screws through the backs of the groove (be careful not to damage the groove lips). For maximum load level capacities, screws should be driven through every other groove (9 inches apart vertically) and at each stud, or furring strip (recommended 16" centers). Cutting to size should be done with the blade entering the grooved side of the panel. This will help to avoid "chip-out." Follow the mounting instructions shown on the back of the panels. What are the typical lead times? Stock panels ship typically in under two weeks (often in a week, or less). The custom panels can take two to three weeks depending on the design and materials vendor. How can I get the grain in wood grained laminate to go in the short direction (vertical cut)? Because the wood grained laminates always come with the grains running in the long, or 8 directions, we need to cut them in half and splice the seam into the back of a groove. In this way, its cut out when the material is removed in the cutting of the center groove. There is a $12 splicing charge for doing this. What are the properties of the board (MDF)? Slatwall is produced from a 48 lb. medium density fiberboard (MDF) and has an internal bond strength of 110 lbs. per square inch. MDF has a linear expansion of .30% and a moisture content of 6 8%. The tolerance on the squareness of the board guaranteed by the manufacturing mills is 1/8th inch when measured across the diagonals of the board. The screw holding capacity for the face is 350 lbs. and 275 lbs. for the edges. Other plywoods, veneers, fire-rated and 150 lb. internal bond boards are available on request. What is the best way to paint the panels? The factory painted panels are produced using an acrylic waterbased paint applied approximately 2 4 mls. thick (depending on the color black is a lacquer finish). These finishes meet all the EPA requirements and cure in approximately 24 to 36 hours. Other epoxy and latex finishes are available on request. Grooves are finished with an acrylic lacquer tinted to customer specifications. Panels typically require a primer coat, a light sanding sealer, and then a finish coat. If you are painting the panels yourself, standard brushes and rollers work fine. Painting the grooves by hand is a time consuming project and should be attacked with a small brush. A specialized paint gun nozzle is used in the factory to paint the grooves. What are Wind Mills terms? Wind Mills terms are net 30 days, and all shipments are F.O.B the factory location. Open account status will be made if the customer has an acceptable credit rating. Non credit accounts require pre-payment, MasterCard / VISA, check, or bank letter of credit. Accounts, if not paid at maturity, are subject to a 1.5% interest charge per month. Terms of payment will be clearly shown on each invoice. What if Im not happy, and want to return some goods? Materials are not to be returned unless prior approval is obtained in writing. Material must be in saleable condition, in original cartons, and will be subject to a 25% re-stocking fee. No returns will be taken after 60 days from shipping date. How should I handle freight claims? All freight claims or shortages should be filed with the carrier by the buyer.
